Herd Sires

Welcome to the Herd Sire part of our ranch. The boys featured here are a significant part of our conservation work. These herd sires contribute a large portion of the genetics to our breeding programs and to the genetic diversity of their breed.

Each of these boys is cared for throughout the year, even when not in service (not breeding). They are critical to our program, but a costly contribution. By sponsoring one of our boys, you will enable us to maintain a higher number of herd sires, thereby increasing the overall genetic diversity of the breed. This diversity helps all who wish to preserve these breeds.

Sponsorship comes with several perks. We will name you as a sponsor of your selected sire on our web page. You will receive updates on the breeding, siring and general status of your selected sire via email. You will receive a photo of your selected sire. You will receive a receipt for your sponsorship.

We suggest a minimum sponsorship of $25 to be used directly for the care of your selected sire.

Let's Take A Look At Our Boys!
(Pictures of our boys coming very soon)

  George ~ American Guinea Hog

George is the Ambassador of Guinea Hogs and the patriarch of our herd. George has a sunny disposition and has made many trips to events to meet people and show them how wonderful and personable Guinea Hogs are. He loves to eat, especially bananas and cinnamon toast.

  Archimedes ~ American Mulefoot Hog

Archimedes was the first boar to live at Maveric. He has been a wonderful herd sire, being prolific and easy to manage. He has taught us much about working with pigs, as he is a kind and gentle animal, with obvious pig instincts. Offspring of Archimedes have helped to establish many other Mulefoot breeders across the United States and Canada.

  Bullwinkle ~ American Guinea Hog

Bullwinkle is a large and lovable Guinea Hog. He has been in service at Maveric for 2 years, and at other farms for many years prior to coming to live with us. Bullwinkle is from a line of Guineas that has fuzzy ears and a shaggy coat, making him and his offspring attractive and almost comical looking.

  Casper ~ American Paint Horse

Casper is the most magnificent horse ever to have graced our presence. He is an aged stallion who has produced winners in many disciplines. Casper has taught us so much about horses, love, compassion and friendship. Casper was injured by a mare during breeding and has a bone chip in his front knee. Although this causes him a great deal of pain, he is always cheery tempered and happy to see us. He is quite talkative and says "thank you" after you've put grain in his dish. Casper is being used on a limited number of gentle mares.

  Corey ~ American Guinea Hog

Corey is from a Guinea bloodline that only has two surviving branches. He is what is known as the big boned Guinea, with a long, lean body structure. Corey is energetic and very interested in the ladies. His first offspring have been smooth coated and very sprightly.

  Henry ~ American Jacob Sheep

Henry is a real looker. He is the picture perfect two-horned Jacob with a champion fleece. We are so happy and proud to have Henry as one of our herd sires. He produces magnificent lambs with exceptional fleece. Henry loves to throw kisses to all the ladies, including the two legged kind!

  Carlos ~ American Guinea Hog

Carlos (and his brother Peter) are the only two remaining boars from the Hale line of Guineas. Initially thought to be extinct, this line was brought to us via our friends, the Hesters, in Indiana. Carlos is a chubby and talkative boar who loves to bask in the sun.

Dillon ~ American LaMancha Dairy Goat

Dillon is Mr. Personality. He is the lady's man of goats. We were lucky enough to purchase Dillon from the South Fork herd of Boulder Colorado. Dillon's bloodlines include permanent champions on both sides. He has produced some of the finest LaMancha babies, all colorful and as lovable as he is. Dillon's offspring have swept the winnings at the State Fair in three different States!

  Peter ~ American Guinea Hog

Peter is a large and reserved boar, who prefers time with the sows to the company of his human caretakers. He is genetically significant as he is one of the two remaining boars from the Hale line. Peter produces wonderfully chunky piglets that are vigorous and growthy.

  Tank ~ American Jacob Sheep

Tank is a beautiful two-horned Jacob with a lovely fleece. He was the first ram born on Maveric that was retained for breeding. He has produced lovely lambs with wonderful qualities.

Holliday's Big Boy ~ American Mulefoot Hog

Big Boy is a very prolific boar, direct from the RM Holliday herd. We estimate his age at about 8 YO. He has a wonderful personality and is easy to be around. His offspring have the typical mulefoot haircoat and straight tail.

Giaccamo ~ American LaMancha Dairy Goat

"G-Man" is a wonderfully colored and sweet tempered buck. He is just coming of age and will be in production this fall. He was orphaned at one day old, and was bottle fed by many caring people. He prefers the company of women (four and two legged) and has much promise as our future bloodline promoter.

Holliday's Yankee Boy ~ American Mulefoot Hog

Yankee is a wonderful boar direct from the RM Holliday herd. He is an aged man, believed to be nearly 10 years old. He is still vital and interested in the sows. We continue to breed him ,as he is genetically significant in the Mulefoot population and produces wonderful piglets.

Neutron ~ American Belted Galloway Bull

Neutron is a tame and sweet tempered Galloway bull. He is wonderful with the cows, a gentle and easy breeder. He has produced some beautifully belted calves, including several that have gone on to start herds with other ranches.

  Lee ~ Ossabaw Island Hog

Lee was a wild captured hog from Ossabaw Island. He has lived at Purdue University Swine Research center for the past several years. He is now retired to Maveric for breeding and exhibition. Lee is sweet tempered and gentle. Hogs from Ossabaw Island were left behind from the Spanish explorers and have remained genetically isolated for over 200 years.

  Clifford ~ Ossabaw Island Hog

Clifford is an Ossabaw hog, caught from Ossabaw Island. Now retired from Purdue University Swine Research center, Clifford is lounging around Maveric and gobbling up treats whenever he can. He is being used to breed three Ossabaw Island sows.

  Borquin ~ Ossabaw Island Hog

Borquin is a somewhat shy boar with a friendly disposition. He has very primitive and interesting features, including fringed ears. Borquin is now retired from the program at Purdue, and will spend his days breeding and showing off for the visitors at Maveric.
